            Sounds of shuffling movements poked at my consciousness as I shifted in bed. I reached for Asma, only to find her side of the bed empty. My eyes flew open in horror. Had last night been a dream? But it couldn’t be, it felt too real, too…

Asma: “9baa7 el 5air 7beebi!”

            A fresh, bright smile greeted my confused expression. I caught my breath. Was I ever going to get used to the sight of her? I sighed in relief. No, I hadn’t dreamt about the best night of my life. It was very real.

            I returned her smile and made her blush for some reason. I wonder what she saw in my expression this time…

Me: “9ba7 el noor, rgadty 3adel?”

            She blushed even more, and I could tell that what happened last night flashed through her mind. I held my laugh.

Asma: “Umm, are you hungry?”

            How good she was at changing subjects! I kept smiling at her knowingly as I answered.

Me: “Yes, I am.”

Asma: “Inzain come I ordered breakfast :D”

            I started to rise and the bed sheets fell halfway to my hips as I sat up, and she blushed furiously and mumbled quickly as she made her way out of the master bedroom.

Asma: “Uhhhh I’ll give you time to change…”

            I shook my head, bemused. Still an innocent, I see. Well, we’re going to have to change that some time soon. I headed to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face, and lazily put on my fanila and wzar, when I felt a bad hunch about something. I ignored it and headed to the living room where my lovely wife was awaiting me.

            She shook her head amusingly at my appearance.

Me: “Shoo, 3ndch mshkila weya the ‘wzar’ look? :p”

            She smiled.

Asma: “Not at all. In fact, I find it kinda hot ;)”

Me: “Walla? Well that’s a first! Glad to know I married the right girl :*”

Asma: “Hhhh, inzain yalla eylis el akil bayibrad.”

            As we ate our breakfast and made small conversations, my phone suddenly rang.


Me: “La76’a a7eena barid.”

Asma: “Yalla 3ad mb 3a wagt el akil!”

Me: “I’ll get rid of whoever it is, I’ll be quick.”

            I stuffed the last piece of my omelet into a slice of bread and tucked it into her mouth. I winked at the satisfaction on her face as I walked towards the annoying tone of my phone. My heart stopped as I fished it out and saw the caller ID. I tip-toed into the bathroom and answered the call as I whispered into the speaker.

Me: “Laish miti9la hal wagt? It’s a bad time!”

“We need to talk.”

Me: “NOW?”

“I’ve carried out my end of the deal, now it’s time you owned up to your part.”

Me: “Fine, when can we meet?”

“As soon as possible.”

Me: “I’ll be free this afternoon, Asma 6al3a weya Nouf elyom.”

“Perfect. I’ll see you then. Bye.”

Me: “Bye.”

            I rubbed my forehead vigorously and stared at my strange reflection in the mirror. Why this soon? Couldn’t I enjoy Asma a little bit more? But I couldn’t put it on hold any longer. I knew it as much as she did. I guess I had hoped that she would forget about the whole thing. I guess my hopes went up too high this time. I sighed again.

Me: “Well, I might as well finish this…”
